Luis plays a significant leadership role on The Americas Sales and Marketing team and within Marriott’s Innovention Network. He provides strategic direction and insight into sales and marketing strategy, and transformation initiatives for Convention and Resort Hotels in the division. In partnership with the Vice Presidents of Sales and Marketing, he is responsible for driving top-line revenue while ensuring that the strategic priorities of the discipline are aligned and designed to yield profitable sales, increased market share, and expanded competitive advantage for Marriott International.
Luis joined Marriott in 2008 as the Vice President, Sales – Western Region. Prior to joining Marriott, Luis had an operational background in the hospitality industry in both cruise ships, where he worked his way up from Assistant Purser to Cruise Director, and land-based hotels. He began his hotel career as a Front Office Manager, transitioning to Catering and Convention Services, and finally Sales and Marketing.
Luis held a series of sales and marketing management roles including Regional Director of Sales, Los Angeles Convention and Visitors Bureau, Midwest Office; Director of Sales, Westin St. Francis, San Francisco, California; Director of Sales & Marketing, Westin Crown Center, Kansas City, Missouri; and Director of Sales & Marketing, The Ritz-Carlton Huntington Hotel and Spa, Pasadena, California.
Finally, Luis served as Vice President, Sales of the second largest hotel in the world, The MGM Grand Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada, and led the sales and marketing effort for the opening of the first condo-hotel development on the Las Vegas Strip, The Signature at MGM Grand, consisting of 1,600 units.
Luis has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the University of Florida. He is a member of PCMA and ASAE.
