 The Effect of Economic Recessions
on Exhibitions

In the 1980’s, CEIR, formerly the Trade Show Bureau, released two reports on the effect of recessions on exhibitions. These reports are appended to this new report on recessions and their impact, which compiles data from 1968 to 2007 in key metrics such as the percentage of first time attendees and the Audience Interest Factor at the average show. The report’s findings indicate that even though attendance and exhibit space may decrease in recessionary periods, key buyers continue to attend each year and the percentage of attendees that actually have plans to purchase remains high.

New US Visa and International
Guest Requirements

New visa requirements, effective in January 2009, may impact meeting and conferences attendees who have never had to worry about visas. Prior to January, travelers from ‘visa-waiver’ countries could come to the US without needing prior approval or paperwork for stays of 90 days or less. Tightened security following 9/11 meant more forms, scrutiny of travel documents, and delays – sometimes significant – for those entering the United States.

Is your entire event information stored on
a USB drive? Protect it!

In the last year, 9,000 USB (memory) sticks including those containing customer lists, confidential files, even a few love letters, have been left in very avoidable situations, says a survey by Texas-based data security experts Credant Technologies.

Quick Tip: Ecosmartsearch.com search engine uses a black background which saves energy because the computer monitor uses 59 watts to produce the image on the screen, whereas a white or light screen uses 74 watts to display the image. This means that every time ecosmartsearch.com is used, it saves 15 watts. As it is Google-powered, the search results are exactly the same but use less energy.
